Approximately 3,000 adolescents will start smoking today. They start smoking at an average age of 14.5 years old and 30 to 50% of them become addicted. Out of those 3,000 adolescents, 1,000 will die of their addiction to tobacco as adults.
767,452 kids have become regular smokers since 2001 began and 245,584 will die from their addiction.
Cigarettes are generally the first drug used by teens. The drug being used is nicotine. Nicotine contains over 500 chemicals such as formaldehyde, cyanide and insecticides.
